When a diva like Beyonce poses for a picture, there is a huge chance that the dress she is wearing is a design from David Koma. The designer has had a colorful career. At just 25 years of age, David has already dressed the likes of Beyonce and Rihanna on the red carpet.
Have you seen Beyonce's gown at the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards? That was David Koma. His name is already a constant on the media's lips and on the prints of the fashion press. According to Billboard, he considers Thierry Mugler as one of his greatest influences in his career.
His designs are considered to be sexy that stars like Selena Gomez and Lady Gaga are also fans of his work. But when he talks about his career, he cites the importance of celebrity dressing for his business and his label. And he emphasizes that music plays a big part in his collections.
When asked how important it was to dress celebrities in his career, he explains that it gives some extra attention to his personal brand. "I appreciate more long-term relationships with different actresses and celebrities," says the young designer. Seeing his portfolio filled with artists and celebrities gives him that extra boost in confidence.
And when it comes to music, he sees it as an inspiration. "When I see a musician having so much power, so much influence, so much energy," says David. He says they are amazing artists.
If you are planning on taking up fashion and design, David believes that London is the best city for a young designer to start his or her career. "The education system is one of the best," he explains. He says there is a whole support system available for young artists to establish their labels.
David Koma is a graduate from Central Saint Martins. He was successful that he earned a spot at the London Fashion Week from his awards at the school.
