Insomnia Cookies, announces the celebration of their 100th store location by giving away free cookies. Starting 9:00 am today until 3:00 am tomorrow, Tuesday, the stores in every location will give its customers one traditional cookie with any purchase whether it's in-store or delivery.

Insomnia is opening its 100th store, after they started 13 years ago in a University Pennsylvania dorm room way back in 2003. Seth Berkowitz and his friends were at the dorms of the UPenn when the concept of Insomnia Cookies was born.

"I had a sweet tooth and Insomnia was born," Berkowitz told Action News.

Berkowitz was a junior economics major at the university when he founded Insomnia Cookies because he was fed up with the same old limited food options that were available for delivery at night. He thought of coming up with something that will gratify the late night cravings of the college students in Philadelphia.

It did not take a long time before his idea went beyond the walls of the university dorms and spread like fire to many states and to as far as Colorado. Today, this cookie craze can be found in a total of 29 states. "Insomnia Cookies is beyond anything I could have imagined in my wildest dreams," said Berkowitz.

Unlike the other shops or cafes, Insomnia Cookies will not be present on every street and every corner despite their growing number of locations. "I don't believe a cookie store on every corner fits our brand. We like to fit nicely into neighborhoods and communities and will continue to grow wherever we can find a welcoming opportunity," Berkowitz said.

Berkowitz would also want to leave a word of advice for everyone. "There is no better time than the present to give it a try. As your responsibilities grow, it's so much harder to take the leap. That being said, I really enjoyed my college experience and entrepreneurship is a sacrifice."
