"Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" is assumed to position on the top spot at the box office this week against several other movie titles in a crowded box-office weekend. Director Edward Zwick's film is being released simultaneously with "Ouija: Origin of Evil" and "Boo! A Madea Halloween." The aforementioned titles are expected to gross around $15 million to $20 million in U.S. Canada alone through Sunday.

The sequel to "Jack Reacher" is said to be at an advantage against the competition during the weekend. "Jack Reacher Never Go Back" will highlight the character Reacher, formerly in the Army and now a nomadic investigator.

In the sequel, Reacher would embark on a mission to prove that Susan Turner (Cobie Smulders), the head of his old unit, is innocent. In the process, he also uncovers a major conspiracy in the death of US soldiers. Paramount Pictures reportedly expect the movie to gross $17 million to $19 million, LA Times reported.

The original "Jack Reacher" in 2012 was reportedly a robust performer for the studio. The film opened with $15.2 million and grossed a total of $80 million domestically and $138 million overseas. This year, international sales are believed to be the focus for "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back."

The title is set to roll out in almost 50 foreign markets this weekend, which will include France, Britain and Brazil. Additionally, the PG-13 rated movie is said to cost $60 million to make.

Meanwhile, critics claim that a plethora of popular "Jack Reacher" book series have been an inspiration for another moving picture. However, the upcoming "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" treat may have fallen short of expectations. Critics who reportedly were not charmed by the first "Jack Reacher" are said to be even less enthused with the sequel.

"Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" lead actor has been reported to remain as an aggressively watchable presence. Moreover, Cruise's co-star Cobie Smulders is said to be a fine addition. It is said that expectations must not be too high to enjoy the film, which is rumored to have a boilerplate plot that went without the first film's villain Werner Herzog that may have added to the sequel's allegedly low bar, Rotten Tomatoes reported.
