Last week, the University of Illinois (UI) warned its students about two blowdart attacks and Thursday, 19-year-old Todd Farthing was arrested, the East Central Illinois News-Gazette reported.

Champaign police arrested Farthing after receiving an anonymous tip that led them to his address in Macon, at Parkland College, where he is a student. He was arrested after being interviewed at the Champaign police department and was booked at the Champaign County Jail around 11 a.m.

He received a preliminary charge of reckless conduct and will appear in court Friday.

The first incident occurred around 8:25 p.m. last Tuesday when a UI student was walking north on the east side of Fourth Street and was crossing towards John Street. The woman, who lives in Champaign, said that was when she felt something sharp hit her in the left forearm. The woman did not see anyone or any vehicles around her upon being hit with the blow dart.

"It was a blow dart sticking in her arm," Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said.

The second incident was about 90 minutes later when a 35-year-old man from Urbana was also hit in the left forearm with a blow dart. He was heading east on the north side of Springfield Avenue and was crossing First Street at the time of getting hit.

Both were taken to Carle Foundation Hospital's emergency room for treatment.

According to Google Maps, only a ten-minute walk separates the locations of the two incidents. By car, it would have taken two minutes and by bicycle, four minutes. While it is highly conceivable Farthing walked from one location to the other, police have not specified his method of transpiration.

According to the Associated Press, Farthing has not commented publically on the matter and it is not yet clear if he has a lawyer.

UI police aided in the investigation.
