Nestlé USA Inc. is currently doing a product recall for some of its products after being tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes (LM). These products are: Nestlé Drumstick Club 16 count Variety Pack and 24count Vanilla Pack.

In a press release published on the company's website, Nestlé USA Inc. stated that a test results showed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes "from equipment contact surfaces from a location on the production line." The production took place in Nestlé's ice cream production facility in Bakersfield, California. It also added that there had been "no positive results for LM present in the Drumstick cones themselves."

As of the moment, there had been no reported cases of illnesses resulting in the consumption of Nestlé drumstick products. According to the press release, the company decided that it is best to recall the products to avoid any possible health risks to the consumers.

Listeria monocytogenes is known to cause severe infections, especially in children. Signs and symptoms ofa LM infection are abdominal pain, high fever, diarrhea severe headaches, stiffness, and nausea. LM infection in pregnant women can lead to miscarriages and stillbirths.

CNN reported that the company stated that their situation is not similar to Blue Bell listeria outbreak where at least three people died. The company cited several reasons and of them is that the recall that they are doing is voluntary and was taken as a precautionary step only.
