"Criminal Minds" Season 12 has started more than a week ago, but the unexpected dismissal of Thomas Gibson from the show has caused anxiety and anger among fans.
Thomas Gibson Versus Virgil Williams
Gibson, who plays Aaron Hotchner in "Criminal Minds," had an altercation with writer and fellow producer Virgil Williams during the production of the show on July 26. Their disagreement was caused by lines assigned to Gibson's character, according to People. The actor claimed that he "tapped" Williams' leg when he was coming towards him, wherein some angry words were exchanged. However, Gibson said he apologized to the writer the following day.
"Criminal Minds" Suspension to Dismissal
The show's higher-ups gave Gibson a two-week suspension after the incident; however, the actor was later told that he is no longer required in the show. The dismissal notice shocked and hurt the actor who has been one of the show's main characters since it began more than a decade ago.
What Will Happen to SSA Aaron Hotchner?
SSA Aaron Hotchner had a minimal part in "Criminal Minds" Season 12 episode 2. Perhaps, this will be his last appearance in the show. A lot of the show's fans hoped that the production could at least send him a proper exit from the show.
Gibson may have some anger issues, but at least, his character deserves much more from the show's producers. Agent Hotchner sacrificed a lot for his team, wherein he even lost his wife in the process.
"Criminal Minds" Production Response
ABC and CBS Studios prepared a statement stating that Aaron Hotchener's exit from the show "will be addressed". The studios promised to notify the fans how it will do it in the coming days. Meanwhile, Aaron Hotchner will not appear in episode three since he is on special assignment, according to IBTimes.
