The luxury vehicle company BMW, made it known to the public that they are planning to release an all-electric version of the company's crossover X3 along with an electric Mini. The move of BMW is a significant expansion to its electric vehicle portfolio.

BMW has a history when it comes to electric vehicles, as they launched the i3 electric car back in 2013, the luxury vehicle company tested out the Mini E in 2009, and deploying a fleet of 500 cars around the globe. In recent years, the company has released the BMW i8, as well as the X5 and a 3-series plug in versions, according to The Verge.

The new vehicles are slated to be available in 2019, and as stated by BMW CEO Harald Krueger, the new vehicles will be competitive when it comes to price and range.

However, BMW is facing pressure from competitors such as Daimler, Tesla and Volkswagen. Earlier this week at the Paris Motor Show, the German automaker Volkswagen unveiled its new all-electric, fully autonomous concept car, the I.D. Chevrolet is also gearing up to release its Chevy Bolt EV before the end of 2016, based on the report of Reuters.

The ID concept of Volkswagen will have a battery range between 249 and 373 miles and the vehicle will be set up as a compact electric vehicle in 2020, Fortune reported.

Also, Mercedes introduced an electric crossover car concept at the Paris Motor Show dubbed as the Generation EQ. The concept is a precursor to the manufacturer's new brand called EQ, which will cover a number of electric products, such as vehicles, charging services, and home energy storage units.

Meanwhile, the American automotive company Tesla is aiming for sales of 80,000 electric sedans and sport utility vehicles this year, and Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk stated that he is aiming a July 2017 roll out for the Model 3.
