Doug Carter has been named the new Women's Basketball Coach and Sports Information Director at the University of Maine-Presque Isle (UMPI). Prior to UMPI, Carter served as the Assistant Coach for the Women's Basketball Patriots at the University of Cumberlands.

"Doug is a proven recruiter with a record of improving programs in the collegiate ranks. I think he is a good fit for the Owls and we expect him take the program to new heights on and off the court," said Paul Stone, the school's athletic director."I also would like to thank the members of the women's basketball search committee and Jim Casciano, its chair, for their hard work over the past few weeks."

The Owls' team finished the previous season at 8-17 after a 0-8 start under Coach Marcus Heidorf. Heidorf resigned in June after two seasons.

"I am extremely honored to have been chosen to lead the women's basketball program at the University of Maine-Presque Isle. I would like to thank Dr. Schott, Paul Stone and the search committee for this tremendous opportunity," Carter said. "I loved the community, the close-knit, family atmosphere of the college staff was so welcoming, I can't wait to get started working with these talented young ladies."

While at Cumberlands, Carter helped develop three All-Americans with two of them currently playing professionally, the 2012 MSC Player of the Year, three NAIA Academic All-Americans, nine academic all-conference selections and the 2012-13 MSC co-rookie of the year.

Carter also served as an assistant and recruiting coordinator at the University of Virginia-Wise from 2006-2010.
