Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime vs Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime: Design and display

Redmi 3S Prime packs gaming specification with its 5 inch display. It weighs 144 grams - 23 grams lighter than the J7 Prime. Based on GSM Arena list, Xiaomi equips the handset with 720 x 1280 pixels resolution and 294 ppi pixel density. It is lower compared to the sharp display on Galaxy J7 Prime as it sports 1080 x 1920 pixels and 401 ppi pixel density.

Samsung has placed Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on the front panel. Both phones own fingerprint scanner.

Looking at the design of Redmi 3S Prime, the high-end handset variant seems to replicate Redmi Note 3. Xiaomi invests in great design for the phone, with the all-metal material. Moving to Galaxy J7 Prime, it boasts a premium finish with the brushed metal. It is ergonomically built, slimmer and looks more stylish than the Redmi 3S Prime.

Both handsets run Android Marshmallow, house 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. Galaxy J7 Prime slightly has faster performance due to the Exynos 7870 chipset (1.6 GHz) compared to Xiaomi's Snapdragon 430 with its 1.4 GHz. Redmi 3S drawback would be the lack of dedicated slot to expand memory.

The rear camera of both phones offer 13 MP shooter which features HDR mode but Galaxy J7 Prime gets better quality for the selfie shooter with its 8MP camera. Redmi 3S Prime houses 5 MP selfie camera minus LED flash.

When it comes to the battery life, Redmi 3S Prime is the winner since it packs 4,100 mAh battery with fast-charging feature. J7 Prime does not have the similar feature for its 3,300 mAh battery.

Both smartphones do not have heating issues when playing games and the battery does not have any draining issue. The drawbacks in J7 Prime would be the lack of gyroscope sensor and the gaming performance might not be the best experience.

For non-gamer, it offers fantastic image results in low light condition compared to the 3S Prime's camera. Hence, it really comes to the personal preference and what user really needs in a smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is priced at $280 - a much more expensive phone compared to Redmi 3S Prime with its $135 pricetag.
