Top 10 Most Sober Colleges: Brigham Young University tops List 16th Consecutive Time
ByOn the other side of the Princeton Review's list of the nation's top party schools, there are the most sober schools.
For the 16th year in a row, Brigham Young University has taken the top spot. Unsurprisingly, the top ten is dominated by private religious schools and a couple women's schools. Surprisingly, military academies like West Point and the Coast Guard Academy have fallen out of the top ten.
BYU celebrated the ranking the only way they know how.
1. Brigham Young University
Location: Provo, Utah
It is owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon) and is the largest religious university and third largest private school in the U.S. Students are required to adhere to a strict honor code forbidding swearing, alcohol consumption, tobacco smoking and more.
2. Wheaton College
Location: Illinois
Wheaton is a private Christian four-year liberal arts school. The school has many organizations dedicated to bringing the arts to the less fortunate in the city of Chicago.
3. City University of New York - Brooklyn College
Brooklyn College is a senior college in the CUNY system. The campus is known as "the poor man's Harvard" because of its picturesque campus, low cost and reputation for academic excellence.
4. College of the Ozarks
Location: Hollister, Missouri
This school is a private Christian liberal-arts school and charges no tuition for full-time students. Instead of paying tuition, the student work program requires its full-timers to work 15 hours per week at an on-campus station during the semesters and 40 per week during breaks.
5. Wesleyan College
Location: Macon, Georgia
This Wesleyan (not Connecticut's) is a private liberal arts women's school. Although the school once founded the nation's two oldest sororities, it no longer has a Greek life on campus.
6. Mills College
Location: San Francisco, California
Mills is an independent liberal arts and sciences college in the San Francisco Bay Area. As well as being one of the Princeton Review's most sober colleges, it also ranks as one of the best and most "green."
7. Howard University
Location: Washington D.C.
Howard is a federally chartered, private, coeducational, nonsectarian, historically black university. Despite being a known HBCU, it allows applicants of all races and genders.
8. Grove City College
Location: Grove City Pennsylvania
Grove City is a Christian liber arts school that aims at an affordable, high quality education in a Christ-centered environment.
9. Spelman College
Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Spelman is a four-year liberal arts women's college that Bill Cosby, Henry Louis Gates, Martin Luther King Jr. and Morgan Freeman have all sent their daughters to.
10. City University of New York - Queens College
Queens College is the fifth oldest school of the senior colleges in the CUNY system. Nationally recognized for its liberal arts and pre-professional programs, it is known as "the jewel of CUNY system."
