While its no secret that avid gamers are in for a long wait until "Kingdom Hearts 3" is finally unveiled, both Square Enix and Disney made an appearance at TGS 2016 to unveil a brand new trailer for "Kingdom Hearts 2.8. HD."

Far cry from previous remastered collections of "Kingdom Hearts," the imminent "2.8 HD" intends to shorten the events that take place between the 3DS game "Dream Drop Distance" and the next numbered entrant in the franchise. Moreover, it is also expected to feature a remaster of the aforesaid handheld game.

But that's not all! It is rumored to encompass a new, cinematic entry dubbed as "Kingdom Hearts x Back Cover."

Rendered using Unreal Engine, "Back Cover" is a non-interactive movie that revolves around the five Union Foretellers, and their roles in the franchise's main dispute, the Keyblade War.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 - Final Chapter Prologue: When Is It Arriving?

Originally slated to hit the store shelves this December, "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8" will now release on January 12, 2017 in Japan and January 28 in the west, IGN reported.

Apparently, the highly anticipated game's release date has been postponed citing the studio's work on "Final Fantasy XV."

The shocking revelation came from Tetsuya Nomura via a tweet that noted "FF XV" is also late. Previous reports have indicated that 'FF XV" is slated to release on November 29. With the release just around the corner, the delay seems to make sense.

The said trailer features a slew of never-before-seen materials from the previous game, Polygon reported.

Avid "Kingdom Hearts" fans will recall the song by Utada Hikaru titled, "Simple and Clean." The song is remixed; but "KH" fanbase will remember it from the aboriginal game that was released back in 2002.

The recently surfaced trailer also features scenes from previous "Kingdom Hearts" games such as "Kingdom Hearts Chi: Back Cover" and "Kingdom Hearts 2.0 Birth by Sleep."

The trailer also shows clips from the HD remaster of "Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance" and the "Kingdom Hearts" origin movie.
