Both flagship smartphones offer elegant all-metal design which does not only feel sturdy but also comfortable in hand. Both get fingerprint scanner and Gorilla Glass 4 back panel. While it is easy to judge Xiaomi as a 'copycat', the Chinese phonemaker was actually the first to introduce glass back panel for Android phone back in 2015 when it released Mi Note, Mashable reported.
The Mi5 is lighter and slimmer as it is a 5.15-inch smartphone weighing 129 grams. Galaxy S7 weighs 152 grams with 5.1 inch screen size.
Galaxy S7 is an IP68 certified phone - meaning, users can bring the phone up to 1.5 m deep in the water. The display quality in Galaxy S7 is much higher than the Mi5 since it is equipped with 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution (~577 ppi pixel density) whilst the Mi5 has 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution (~428 ppi pixel density).
Obviously, Galaxy S7 is the clear winner on paper but it is difficult to notice the differences in detail since both have excellent display.

Given the screen resolutions, Galaxy S7 produces more accurate colors. It also captures images gorgeously with its 12 MP of rear camera (with OIS and LED flash features) and 5MP of selfie shooter. The optics support Auto HDR mode and 4K video recording.
On the other hand, Mi5 is not far behind. In fact, it offers a great pair of cameras, 16 MP and 4 MP. The rear camera features dual LED flash and OIS four-axis for a steady shoot.

When it comes to connectivity, Mi5 supports a limited 4G LTE whilst the S7 offers wider network. Both phones offer powerful processor with quad-core Snapdragon 820 under the hood. Mi5 does not have a dedicated memory slot but it is available in three versions: Pro Edition (128 GB, 4 GB RAM), Prime edition (64 GB, 3 GB RAM), and Standard (32 GB, 3 GB RAM), as listed in GSM Arena.
The Galaxy S7 is more flexible with 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64 GB of storage options. It allows memory expansion up to 256 GB.
Both smartphones have exactly the same battery capacity, non removable 3,000 mAh with fast-charging feature.
