El Paso police on Wednesday arrested Richard Spencer, a 21-year-old football player at the University of Texas, for being allegedly involved in an early morning fight, outside of a bar at the intersection of Mesa Street and Cincinnati Avenue.

Darrel Petry, El Paso Police spokesman, said that Spencer is accused of pushing a 22-year woman on the shoulders and against a white truck. The victim is reported to have sustained injuries in the incident.

Petry said that despite being told to stop, Spencer continued to walk away from the officers. After few minutes, officers caught hold of him and detained him on 'suspicion of assault causing bodily injury and resisting arrest.'

Currently, Spencer is locked up in the El Paso County Jail on a bond of $1,500.

Spencer is a senior defensive back for the University of Texas, El Paso (UTEP) football team. Spencer originally from Moreno Valley, Ca led the team in solo and overall tackles through the first four games, last season.

"We are in the information-gathering stage right now and will take the appropriate disciplinary action when we have all the details," said Sean Kugler, UTEP Head Coach.
