At Apple's annual mobile hardware event, the tech company unveiled its second generation smartwatch. The Cupertino based tech company called the gadget as the Apple Watch Series 2.

The smartwatch seems to resemble its predecessor, as the Apple Watch Series 2 also got a square, customizable watch face, mostly for revealing the time and setting out notifications. Apple's smartwatch also has the same single-day battery life.

But, the biggest changes of Apple Watch Series 2 are a new water-resistant shell, which makes the smartwatch swimproof, along with the additional GPS chip. But, Apple's latest smartwatch at $369 has no cellular connection, based on the report of The Verge.

The built-in GPS of Apple Watch Series 2 allows the device to perform mapping on its own, without requiring a phone. The waterproofing contained a key element that actually brings forth an audible gasp from the crowd when Apple showed it off. Aside from the waterproofing feature of Apple Watch Series 2, the latest smartwatch is even more fitness focused compared to its predecessor.

Apple also upgraded the processor of Apple Watch Series 2 (dubbed as S2) and the gadget's display. The tech company claimed that Apple Watch Series 2 is packed with a dual-core processor, and 50 percent faster than its predecessor. Thanks to the gadget's new GPU, the latest Apple smartwatch has a double graphics performance, according to Tech Crunch.

As the display is now 50 percent brighter, the apps as well as the general maneuvering through the device's interface is much snappier.

However, as the Apple Watch Series 2 is slated to follow the footsteps of the iPhone 7, and if all goes according to the tech company's plan, the pre-orders are set to start on September 9. The shipping will begin on September 13, and it will hit the market on September 16, Digital Trends reported.
