Sony Corporation has unveiled two new versions of the PlayStation 4 console. The tech company also revealed the details of the upgraded version of the PS4.

As the slimmer PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro were unveiled at the event, it is an unprecedented move of the tech giant pointed to console makers' increasing focus on software and services.

The slimmer PS4 and PS4 Pro comes just three years after the original console was unleashed and marked a major departure from the typical longer refresh cycles for the video game consoles, based on the report of CNBC.

Microsoft has also released a mid-cycle refresh video game console dubbed as the Xbox One S, and Microsoft also has an intention for a higher spec device for 2017, the Project Scorpio.

Andrew House, President of Sony Interactive Entertainment, stated that the new version of the console (Pro) is specifically designed to support 4K TVs, as well as a high dynamic range video. Which means, the PS4 Pro can offer more beautiful, detailed graphics compared to the existing PS4.

Game designer Mark Cerny claimed that in addition to the amount of hardware innovations to support 4K graphics, the PlayStation 4 Pro will be able to hand over a higher quality visuals, that includes on mere HDTVs. The PlayStation 4 Pro will deliver a GPU that's twice as powerful as the existing PS4, and PS4 Pro will be packed with a 1 terabyte hard drive, according to Tech Crunch.

As the PlayStation 4 Pro is intended for hardcore gamers, slimmer PlayStation 4 is presumably for an entry-level model. But gamers may also find that their feelings about the benefits of the PlayStation 4 Pro are different when they are looking at TV versus VR, Wired reported.

The PS4 Pro will ship on November 10, while slimmer PlayStation 4 is slated to be released next week.
