Instagram's Photo Maps, which let people see where a person's snapshot came from, has been ditched. The company even confirmed that they started getting rid of the maps from the service.
Some of Instagram's users who visited other profile have already noticed that Photo Maps is gone in the online mobile photo-video sharing network service, based on the report of The Verge.
Instagram said in a statement that they decided to remove the Photo Map feature for the reason that it was not widely used, for that, the social networking service will focus on other priorities. But, Instagram made it known that a user can still see location tags on individual posts.
Instagram users can still view their own map for now. However, with the latest update to the app, the user's ability to see other people's maps disappeared.
Speculations burst out in the internet claiming that the removal of the feature could be a way to crack down on images revealing the locations of high-profile users.
However, as Instagram is currently obsessed with video and beating the multimedia mobile application Snapchat, cartography isn't exactly high on Instagram's priority list.
It's a huge change for the app that started as a location-based check-in app, like Foursquare. In spite of that, one of the social networking platform's other priorities is likely Instagram Stories, where Snapchat clone the feature as it rolled out last month, according to Mashable.
Anyway, hence the removal of Photo Maps, it seems the social media network doesn't want its app to be too complicated. It remains to be seen if Instagram will present any new Snapchat-like features soon. Though it's safe to speculate that Instagram will introduce a face and location filters, which resembles to the ones provided by Snapchat, would surely be their top choice, Android Headlines reported.
