Android Nougat Tips and Tricks: Android 7.0 Has A Hidden Feature, Upgrade Nexus Handset To Nougat [VIDEO]
ByThe LG "Nexus" may be able to upgrade to the latest Android version, "Nougat." According to ZDNet, the upgrade files needed were posted by Google, that will allow LG Nexus phone owners to upgrade to the latest release of their mobile OS.
Over-the-air update is still possible for upgrading your phone's OS to Nougat in the week to come, but those that are interested in trying out the new multitasking improvements and features much earlier can bypass the wait by simply downloading the needed files straight from Google's developer site and install the files manually.
There are two types of files to choose from when installing Android "Nougat." Users can either choose the full factory images, where it requires a device wipe and also restore the original factory firmware, or the one which does not require a device wipe which are the OTA binary image files.
The "Nexus 5X" (Image/OTA) will be the first handset that will be supported by the Nougat files, while the similar files for the "Nexus 6P" and the "Nexus 6" are down the line and will be available soon. Other phones that will be supported by the files are the "Nexus Player (Image/OTA), "Pixel C (Image/OTA), and the "Nexus 9 Wi-Fi."
However, Nougat will not be available for the "Nexus 5" or the 2013 "Nexus 7" units.
Another way to bypass the wait for Nougat, is enrolling your Nexus devices in Google's beta program. This gives users access to the operating system's developer preview version. You can find instructions on how to do this safely at ZDNet.
As far as new features are concerned, in a report by BGR, Android Police revealed information and screen images of a navigation bar customizer hidden in the code for the Nougat. As of now, it's inactive, as it was removed from the code base as it is still not ready.
Although Nexus device users can get the latest upgrades for Android in the weeks to come, there will likely be several months of wait for Android smartphone makers to roll out the update for all their other handsets.
The first LG phone that ships with Nougat already in it that is not a Nexus model is the "LG V20."
