ByThe fall season for television seems like its all about the reboots. Several successful television shows are now going through the process of being reborn in the small screen, some of which are introduced through this generation for the first time. Several shows that will be seen in the small screen for the first time, but are well-known movies before are "Frequency," "The Exorcist" and "Lethal Weapon."
With all the silver screen films receiving a small screen treatment, A new rebooted series seems to be catching audience's attention in different ways. Back in February 2016, Variety reported that a "MacGyver" reboot is in the works, and that it will be developed by Lionsgate. MacGyver is about a "problem solver" employed by the fictional agency, "The Phoenix Foundation." The series ran for seven seasons from 1985 to 1992.
A trailer for the MacGyver reboot was release last May, with the name of director James Wan attached to produce the series. Wan, who is known for helming "Furious 7" of the "Fast and Furious" film franchise, was a big fan of the original MacGyver Television series, and added more humorous elements into the new trailer.
The new trailer does however show something much more different than the original - MacGyver now works with a team. In the original series, Angus MacGyver usually works with those he interacts with in his missions. The only characters that comes close to him having a team are Pete Thornton (Dana Elcar), the head of the Phoenix Foundation who acts more of the mission giver, and the Jack Dalton, his pilot buddy, who usually pops-up in some episodes. While they do help MacGyver in the original, their presence act more like a plot device for some episodes, but their existence was never a necessity for all of Mac's missions.
According to Gizmodo, the new MacGyver trailer introduces the audience to his team comprising of "the muscle," "the boss," "the best friend," and "the hacker."
MacGyver stars actor Lucas Till as the titular character, and airs on CBS this falls 2017.
