Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish quarterback Everett Golson will be back in the spring.

While attending a charity basketball game, Golson told ABC's Myrtle Beach, N.C. affiliate that he would be back at Notre Dame in the spring. ND suspended Golson for what he called "poor academic judgment" and was since removed from the football team.

"I will be returning in the spring, that's pretty much it," Golson said.

The school suspended him in May for undisclosed reasons and Golson himself declined to specify what those reasons were as well. He did promise to return "a better student-athlete as well as a better individual."

Sunday, he told the television station he will be back in South Bend next spring.

"I've been working out, keeping my head up," Golson said. "I've had a little adversity but I've learned you can't sit down and just take that, you got to pick yourself back up and keep going forward and continue doing what you were doing and everything is going to work itself out in the end."

The Fighting Irish head football coach Brian Kelly named Tommy Rees the starting QB for the upcoming season, but left open the possibility of a return by Golson. That return seems inevitable for the football season beginning in 2014. However, Rees, who has all year to audition for the following year, and incoming recruit DeShone Kizer could make Golson's job not so guaranteed.

Golson completed 187 of his 318 attempts last season and threw for 2,405 yards, 12 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also rushed for 298 yards and scored six touchdowns on the ground. He helped ND get to the BCS National Championship game where they lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

According to Scout.com, a Fox Sports recruiting site, Kizer has great size, good decision making abilities and strong leadership qualities. His playing style resembles Golson's, making him a nice fit for Kelly's offense, but he needs to work on his release and technique.
