The Arizona based automaker company - Elio Motors, unfold the pre-orders for the two-seater car crowdfunded, the Elio.

The company first publicized that the retail price of the vehicle would be $6,800, but the preorders for the two-seater car now start at a higher $7,000.

The price of the vehicle is for the base model of the car that is capable of achieving 84 mpg from a 3-cylinder engine. Elio Motors did not throw in a fixed delivery date, but the company is getting consumers to lock-in for a reservation, Tech Times reported.

In pre-ordering the car, Elio Motors requires the client to sign a binding agreement to purchase the three-wheeled vehicle - in spite of the fact that the date of sale is covered in mystery. And customers who have fastened themselves with a non-refundable pre-order will have a final price of $7,300 for the two-seater car or the autocycle.

However, as Elio Motors announced the complicated pricing scheme, it has been said that the company need to fulfill the requirements for the Department of Energy's Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing (ATVM) loan program. As a result, the automaker company has made two pricing tiers, even though they already have 56,000 non-refundable reservations, according to Slash Gear.

That being said, questions surfaced on the internet asking if is it worth to purchase the three-wheeled vehicle. A person who experienced driving the two-seater car testified that he can't tell if it was a great driving experience, as the vehicle made a noise like a tractor in a hayfield. The gearbox was unpleasantly messy, bordering on unusable, as well as the handling did not inspire confidence.

Jerome Vassallo, Elio's VP of sales, stated about the advantage of the car that ninety percent of the time people are driving by themselves. Individuals say they want to carpool, but most of them are on their own. So the Elio might be a good fit for people who travel on their own, Fastcoexist reported.
