At an early age it is clear that he had the drive, love for sports, and enthusiasm. Later on, he co-founded Nike (with Bill Bowerman) and became the chairman and CEO. But before the world knew him as one of the men behind Nike, he graduated from the University of Oregon and Stanford University. In University of Oregon, he took a journalism degree. While in Stanford, he took a business administration degree.

He was also a Certified Public Accountant, which makes him skilled as a businessman. He also became an assistant professor of the business administration sector at Portland State University.
