The weekend will open 3 new movies with very diverse genres. There is the action/spy thriller, "Jason Bourne" - the 5th installment of the movie franchise, with Matt Damon coming back to play the title character. There is also the comedy, "Bad Moms" that stars Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn. Aldo opening will be the thriller, "Nerve" starring Emma Roberts and Dave Franco.
After a very long wait, fans of the Bourne franchise finally gets to see a Bourne movie that they have long been waiting for - a movie with Jason Bourne in it. The last Bourne movie titled, The Bourne Legacy starred actor Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross, and since then, fans have been clamoring for Matt Damon's return to the iconic role. Legacy was not helmed by director Paul Greengrass, but instead was directed by Bourne screenplay writer, Tony Gilroy. Although Legacy was an okay movie, fans definitely felt the absence of Damon and Greengrass.
Finally, after 4 years, Damon and Greengrass finally decided to return to the franchise and continue where they left off. Fans were all too excited when news first came out that they will finally be able to see Bourne's gritty and fast-paced action again.
Based on a report by Deadline, Universal has decided to release Jason Bourne in the same date as last years Tom Cruise action hit, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, which at the time is being tracked at $35 million, but ended up grossing at a high $55.5 million for its first weekend. Jason Bourne seems to be traking much higher than Rogue Nation due to much higher advance ticket sales when compared to Rogue Nation. Critics also speculate that Damon will have a mich higher box-office draw than Renner was with Legacy.
ET Online has featured some trailers for Jason Bourne, which proves that the marketing department is amping it up for the weekend box-office. The past trailers have certainly done their job to create hype for the movie. But fans altogether seem to be excited by just having Matt Damon back after the many rumors pointing to the contrary.
Jason Bourne kick his way back into movie theaters on July 29, 2017.
