Omar Abdelbadie, a 22-year-old neurobiology major and member of the dean's list at University of Washington, was arrested by Seattle Police for allegedly raping a 12-year-old runaway girl.
According to the court documents, Abdelbadie noticed the girl "dressed provocatively" walking on The Ave, in Seattle's University District late Sunday night. When he saw the girl again that day, he spoke to her and invited her home to smoke marijuana at his apartment. They engaged in sexual intercourse multiple times throughout the night and the morning.
The girl was reported missing by her guardian, Sunday night.
The Seattle police responded to a call around 8:00 p.m. Monday from an unknown man near the University District. He told the police that he recognised Abdelbadie from a previous job who seemed to be walking with an underage girl. During interrogation, both of them admitted to having sex. When the man asked the girl her age, she told him she was 15.
During the investigation, the victim told the investigators that she had told Abdelbadie that she was 12 years old before they had sex. According to Washington State law, sexual intercourse between a 22-year-old and a 12-year-old is a second degree child rape.
Abdelbadie, a senior at the university is currently being held in King County Jail. He is expected to be charged with second-degree child rape. The judge set bail at $100,000. Abdelbadie will have to pay 10 percent of the bail amount in order to be released from jail. If released he is forbidden contact with minors. The judge called him "a risk to the community."
Abdelbadie, born in Egypt, has been staying in Bellevue, Washington, for the past eight years. He is majoring in neurobiology and minoring in Japanese.
