Yahara Journal Student Art Show is an annual event where students-produced fine arts are showcased. Though the art show has started last May 20 with an opening reception from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Truax Gallery, the show is extended until August 4.
Doug Kirchberg, Yahara Journal advisor said in an interview with Wisconsin State Journal, "While some of the work is from students in our college transfer art classes, our graphic arts program or our adult basic education are classes, a good portion of it is from students who simply enjoy the arts and don't plan on making it their career."
Participants are reminded to submit items that are already framed, mounted and ready for display. For the non-hanging items such as ceramics, jewelry and etc. they will be placed in cases in the galley.
Among the submissions, only three will be declared as best-of-show winners with the following prizes - first place $100, second place $50 and third place $25. The jury of the show is composed of Yahara Journal staff and gallery staff.
Yahara Journal is an organization who is behind the art-related events and writing activities around the campus of Madison College. They published the college's fine arts and literary journal of student's work which will be released every end of the spring semester. Sponsoring events such as annual arts show is their way of encouraging students to go out from their comfort zones and show their talents in writing and visual arts.
For students of Madison College who wanted to be a part of the organization, they are requested to fill-out the interest from and request membership at Yahara Journal page. However, student-applicant must be enrolled in at least 1 credit to become a staff member.
The organization is holding meetings every Thursday at 4:30 P.M. in Truax Room C1408 inside of the Student Life.
