An Ohio resident was sentenced Tuesday to a prison term of one year and one day for his role in making an anonymous video threat to the University of Pittsburgh (PITT), the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Alexander Waterland, 25, of Loveland, Ohio, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit iInternet extortion and will also serve two years of supervised release after his sentence in prison.

The conspiracy charges against Waterland and his cohort Brandon Hudson, 26, of Hillsboro, Ohio, are not related to the dozens of bomb threats PITT received last year.

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, a Scottish man named Adam Stuart Busby is being held in an Irish jail and is awaiting extradition to Pittsburgh. He was indicted nine months ago.

Waterland and Hudson claimed to not have any knowledge of the bomb threats when they made their own video threat. The two Ohio men claimed to have hacked into PITT's server and obtained personal information of faculty and students and said they would release it unless the administration apologized for not securing it.

Hudson is set to be sentenced on June 18.

PITT received Waterland and Hudson's video threat five days after the bomb threats, which froze the university for six weeks, ended. Assistant U.S Attorney James Kitchen said in court that Chancellor Mark Nordenburg did not know the two were not involved in the bomb threats and also did not know if they had the information they said they took.

"They certainly don't view what happened here as a prank gone wrong," Kitchen told U.S District Judge Joy Flowers Conti during a hearing in federal court.

Waterland's attorney, Anthony Bittner tried to argue for a lesser sentence with no prison time for his client. He stated Waterland did not seek money or cause real damage, that he only hacked a computer server.

In her decision, Conti noted that PITT was "vulnerable" following the bomb threats and passed down her sentencing of a year in prison and two years of supervised release.
