Two Troy University athletes have been suspended indefinitely after they were arrested for disorderly conduct by the Troy Police Department early this month.
Brooke Bowie, a 21-year-old women's basketball player and Jadarius Garner, a university football player, were allegedly involved in a shooting incident at 315 Exchange, Three Notch Street, Troy.
"We are aware of an incident that happened off-campus early Saturday morning and as a result we have suspended football student-athlete Jadarius Garner and women's basketball student-athlete Brooke Bowie indefinitely,'' Athletic Director John Hartwell said. "The University will continue to gather information about what happened and we will act accordingly as a result of the outcome of the investigation."
The police responded to call about shooting at the bar, early morning May 4, around 2:20 a.m. No major injuries were reported as a result of gunshots.
Two incident/offense complaints were registered with the police from victims who sustained injuries from a fight that occurred before the officers arrived.
Witnesses testified that they heard about 3-5 gunshots. One of them stated that the police fired a taser at one male in order to restore order. It is uncertain if the tasered man was Garner
Garner, a Clarksdale Miss. native, is beginning his sophomore season as a defensive lineman with the football program and Bowie is a senior guard for the women's basketball program. She averaged 4.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 14.4 minutes per game last season.
