One of the top priorities of Blackberry is to make handset business profitable this year, one of the CEOs of company, Thorsten Heins resigned again.
Blackberry CEO John Chen said on June 22 at Annual General Meeting that the company will prioritize to return its device business to profitability. During the event, Chen said he would like to see Blackberry stays in handset business, and he amitted that there will be plenty of challenges that will come along the way, N4BB reported.
Blackberry became the smartphone market leader, however, the competition with Apple and others displaced them from being the leading provider of smartphones. Depsite verge of closing down its business, the company came back strong with a new BlackBerry device, and it totally embraced the Android platform.
One of the reasons why the company returns in the market is, its software business, which is the major driver of earnings. The company's enterprise offering was strong last quarter, thus made them decide to add about 3,600 enterprise.
Chain said the company will focus on growing its software revenue by 30%. Chen added with confidence that their devices will become the future for any company.
Although Chen's focus was Blackberry software division, he emphasized that the company will remain in the hardware business.
Meanwhile, although BlackBerry, announced its aim to stay in the handset business, another CEO Thorsten Heins resigned from his position, CNET reported. This is not the first time he stepped down as in 2013, he resigned as CEO of wireless charging company Powermat.
On Monday, June 27, the company confirmed the moved of ex-CEO, which said to be a part of a broader revamp and settled a long-standing dispute between investors.
Powermat was able to champion as one of the key standards in wireless charging, however it faced another hurdle. Another hitch of the company is a rival standard called Qi.
