The University Of Central Florida's Rosen College Of Hospitality Management has allowed Hyung-il Jung, an accounting instructor, who was placed on paid administrative leave for three weeks, to teach a class this summer.
Last month, Jung was was embroiled in a controversy after making a 'killing spree' remark to around 25 students in his optional review class on accounting in the hospitality industry.
"The student who reported the comment to us interpreted it as a threat to her class, and we will always take any reported threat very seriously," Chad Binette, a university spokesman said."This is not an acceptable topic to joke about, particularly in light of recent events around the country and on our campus."
The university took the incident seriously asApart from the one student that complained to the university officials, remaining students took the comment as a joke.
Later, Jung also said that he made a reference to the 'Killing spree' in a light-hearted manner and did not mean to cause any harm to students.
After noticing worried looks on students' faces during a student review session, last month, in preparation for a final exam, Jung said, "What I said was: 'This question is very difficult. It looks like you guys are being slowly suffocated by these questions. Am I on a killing spree or what?'"
Once Jung finished the comment, he claims that all the students laughed along with him.
Along with the suspension, the university asked him to undergo a thorough evaluation and obtain a written certification of sound mental health.
