Ex-Rutgers men's basketball coach Mike Rice has been receiving anger management counseling at John Lucas' Wellness and Aftercare program in Houston, Texas, reported ESPN.com.

Rice was fired in April after videos of him verbally and physically abusing his players in practice had surfaced. He has been in Houston for the past two weeks.

"He's doing great," Lucas told ESPN.

Rice has been helping train and coach former college basketball players who are going through Lucas' pre-NBA draft camp.

"His attitude has been phenomenal, and our kids love his intensity and his passion for the game. He's happy to be having this chance to give back a little bit," Lucas said.

Lucas said Rice does not have a timetable for his stay and that during his time in Houston, he will not be granting any interviews. Lucas declined to answer further questions.

Lucas is a former NBA point guard who had a promising career before he fell into trouble with substance abuse. He opened his own facility after he finished his own rehabilitation. In fact, he began developing a program based on exercise and treatment while he was going through his own treatment, according to his website JohnLucasBasketball.com.

He opened his Wellness and Aftercare facility about 20 years ago. It offers counseling and treatment for such issues as addictions to drugs, alcohol, food and sex, as well as problems with weight, work ethic and anger management.
