Purdue University North Central (PNC) has received a nod of approval from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education to offer a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering through its College of Engineering and Technology department.
Students can start applying for the course starting from the 2013 fall term.
Civil Engineering is the 23rd bachelor's degree program introduced by PNC.
The PNC Civil Engineering program was reviewed by the Department of Engineering Education and the Department of Civil Engineering at the Purdue University West Lafayette campus. The Civil Engineering curriculum is designed to seek accreditation from the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET).
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the craze for civil engineers is expected to grow. This field is credited to be one of the fastest-growing career opportunities, with an annual salary of $77,560.
Dr. Thomas Brady, dean of the PNC College of Engineering and Technology, said that civil engineering focuses on the analysis, design and development of structural systems, construction projects, transportation projects, environmental projects and water quality.
Graduate students can apply for job positions such as civil engineer, environmental engineer, transportation engineer and project engineer.
Apart from civil engineering, the college also offers programs in mechanical and electrical engineering.
