While Apple continues to keep details of its flagship smartphone under wraps, slew of leaked renders have been surfacing online from time to time. The latest breach in the series however is not quite in sync with the previous rumors.

If the recently leaked component images are anything to go by, Apple is working on what looks like one of the most significant changes to its handsets in several years, a move that would prove beneficial to the users, however chances are it will not be well received by the carriers, SlashGear reported.

The leaks divulge that the 3.5mm headphone jack has still retained its spot on the iPhone 7, which features a Dual-SIM tray. That's not uncommon though - an array of Android devices such as the OnePlus 3, come with the ability to connect on two networks at the same time - however, this would be Apple's first foray as far as Dual-SIM connectivity is concerned.

Apparently, the Cupertino-based tech firm is prepping different variants of the iPhone 7, targeted at different markets.

Rumors are running rampant hinting an "iPhone Pro" which would reportedly offer a new and enhanced experience as compared to the traditional iPhone range - for instance, a Dual-SIM edition that enable users to switch between networks that several users in India, China and other regions clamor for - could finally be offered, but only in select parts of the world.

Although Apple already has quite a few versions of the iPhone that cater to different cellular brands, they're otherwise identical in terms of cosmetic appearance and technology.

That said, the Western markets including the United States and Europe are not quite well acquainted with Dual-SIM handsets unlike smartphone users in other regions, however this does not imply there's no benefit for them in having an additional a second slot.

Although the debut of Dual-SIM on iPhone will enable users to run multiple carriers for more flexibility, the SIM card tray that can be simply ejected from the housing, will not provide users an option to expand their storage via a microSD card. The Cupertino-based tech giant has never offered iPhone users an option to expand storage feature, however the ability to add more than one SIM card is without-a-doubt a refreshing change, WCCF Tech reported.

An iPhone user can now opt between a T-Mobile SIM for data and a Verizon SIM just for their voice service, perhaps due to a better coverage in the region where they work or live. Carriers would definitely grow more and more competitive with this move from Apple.

As far as the iPhone 7 is concerned, the ability to have dual SIM cards, and opt for a coverage that suits you the best, and other added-extras could further cement the idea of a carrier being nothing more than a mere service, rather than a vital and a single factor that decides how you use your smartphone.
