Kendall College, famous for its Culinary arts and hospitality programs, has collaborated with Spanish soccer club, Real Madrid's International School, to offer a new sports management course beginning this summer. This will be a first in its 28-year history.

This partnership will allow Kendall students to spend a week in Madrid to take classes and at the same time an opportunity to work at the team's stadium.

The six-course curriculum features the economics of sports; Entrepreneurship, sustainability and social responsibility in sports management; Sports marketing and communications; Sports facility management; Sports event management and Sports management law, governance and ethics.

In Sports management law, governance and ethics, the students will particularly learn about the impact of working in the field with other international governing bodies

"We found there's a growing interest in the fields of sports management and sports marketing," said Kendall President Emily Williams Knight, who approached the Real Madrid school about a year ago to discuss forming a joint program. "It was very clear that this was something we needed to do at Kendall."

Among the six courses, some will be taught by Real Madrid professors via video conferencing. And, students, who wish to pursue the one-week internship with the team in Spain would be required to take care of their own travel and living expenses.

Knight said that as professional sports has evolved tremendously over the past few years; it has now become imperative to teach our community about career prospectives in the field of sports.

The college will begin its enrolment for the course, starting July 1.
