A group of volunteers in Indiana University (IU), Bloomington, posted flyers across the campus last weekend with pictures of missing IU student Lauren Spierer and other information, in a renewed attempt to gather clues about her disappearance nearly two years ago.
"Putting Up More Posters for Lauren," - this activity coincides with the second anniversary of her disappearance and the university's graduation ceremony to be held soon.
The volunteers allege that if Spierer had been found in good shape and health, she too would have graduated along with them
Shelly Leonard, one of the volunteers and a Gosport resident, said that the poster-hanging event is their last effort before her class graduates from Bloomington.
Lauren's parents, Rob and Charlene Spierer, thanked the group of volunteers who participated in the event through a message in a Facebook page they created to help the police find their daughter.
"Your commitment and support as we continue our search for our daughter is remarkable. Hoping for answers. Hoping today is the day someone will finally come forward."
Spierer, 20, vanished on June 3, 2011, after a late night party with friends in downtown Bloomington.
Earlier, this month, Bloomington firefighters re-built 20 large tattered and faded signs featuring photographs of Spierer, description, phone number and website; requesting people to come forward and provide necessary information on her disappearance. Those signs erected two years ago across Bloomington had become weathered.
"After two years, people tend to forget," said firefighter Lee Chapman. "And we are going to get the word out; this is getting it back out there."
Chapman said that majority of the materials required for the signs were contributed by the neighborhoods. He and his fellow firefighters completed the project in an afternoon.
