Houghton College will be offering night time degree programs at two new locations in Niagara County later this year. The courses relating to Bachelor of Science degree will be held at Kenan Center in Lockport and the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Niagara Falls.
Classes at Lockport will be held every Wednesday night starting July 24 and the Niagara Falls classes will be beginning from September.
Katie Buvoltz, associate dean of adult education, said that the college is looking to admit maximum 12 to 15 students at each site, so that every class comprises of not more than 20 students per location.
This is not the first time Houghton will be introducing night time courses; it has started such classes in locations such as Jamestown, Olean, Arcade and Dansville. Management degree program is being taught at these localities.
"We're really looking to expand more northward," Jeffrey Babbitt, director of marketing for the Allegany County-based Christian college, said. "We're offering a program in areas where opportunities are limited."
Babbitt said that the courses will help people gain credits that will add to their previous college credentials and life experiences.
Elaine Harrigan, director of marketing for the Kenan Center, said that if an individual enrolls in this college program, he/she can complete a degree in just 18 months by attending only one class per week. Plus, a three-credit course can be completed in just five weeks.
Harrigan said that these kinds of night time programs are becoming more and more popular among adults as they are not forced to allocate four years of their time to attain a college degree.
