Franklin police have launched a hunt for a man who assaulted and robbed a 19-year-old Franklin College student at knifepoint, last Monday night.
The incident occurred when an unknown man stepped out of the shadows and punched the victim's face as she stepped outside the Dietz Center around 9:35 p.m. to make a phone call.
"The attacker shoved the victim against a wall and placed a knife to her throat," Franklin police said. "The suspect never spoke during the incident. The suspect took the victim's wallet, but abandoned it when a car pulled into the parking lot."
The suspect is described as white, in his mid-20s to early 30s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a dark goatee beard. He was wearing dark pants or shorts with a red Indiana University sweatshirt that displayed the word "Indiana" in white letters across the front.
Police said that as soon as the man noticed a car, he started running eastbound. They found the wallet and returned it to the student.
Due to the incident, the victim sustained cuts on her neck and stomach and a swollen right eye.
Franklin's campus police said that this is the first crime incident to occur in more than a decade. Otherwise, the campus is known to be a safe place.
Police asked anyone with information to call Sgt. John Borges at 317-346-1142.
The college alerted the students about this incident and assured them that all safety measures were in place.
