A California State Bakersfield University graduate has filed a lawsuit against the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. in the Los Angeles County Superior Court for hazing , early this month.

Brent McClanahan Jr.'s lawsuit claims that he was beaten repeatedly during the fraternity initiation process and later collapsed at his parents' home in April 2011.

The lawsuit names Kappa Alpha Psi; its regional office; the fraternity's Bakersfield Alumni chapter; and fraternity alumni Kencey Agu, Deandre Horn and Ahmad Rashard Mallard.

McClanahan, who was 25 years old at the time, was immediately taken to the hospital.

He had multiple bruises and cuts on his body. He had to undergo back surgery for herniated and ruptured discs.

It's been two years, since the incident and McClanahan is partially paralyzed and suffers from nerve damage, foot and leg drop, back pain, is unable to walk without assistive devices, has lost bladder control, cannot engage in sexual activity and has psychological and emotional trauma and depression.

Along with McClanahan, three others were beaten with canes, whips and paddles; punched in the ribs; shot with a BB gun, and drenched them with flour and chocolate.

Ryan Nichols and Philemon Lamont Norris, aged 23 and 22 respectively at the time of the hazing, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of hazing last year in Kern County Superior Court.

Deandre Tramaine Horn also pleaded no contest to the charges, but received three years' probation and was ordered to o pay restitution to McClanahan for expenses incurred as a result of the crime.
