The New York Knicks are planning to buy a draft pick with Derrick Williams as possible trade bait.
Williams who was once the 2nd overall draft pick of the 2011 NBA Draft can be a viable collateral piece as Phil Jackson has once again expressed his interests on beefing up their backcourt this time around with draft picks possibly coming from the late 1st round and the 2nd round of the 2016 NBA Draft, ESPN reported.
The website mentioned that the 11-time NBA champion has both eyed Indiana University Hoosiers' Yogi Ferrell and University of Kansas Jayhawks' Wayne Selden, Jr. The 6'0 Ferrell is a shot maker from the outside although his size can be one of the biggest issues that can work against him. The much heftier playmaker Selden at 6'6 is a well-rounded shooting guard with great athleticism.
The Knicks have long surrendered their draft rights for the incoming 2016 draft courtesy of then Toronto Raptors power forward Andrea Bargnani, Now their chances for acquiring new talent has been reduced only to the free-agency marketplace.
With such a dilemma on how to initiate the triangle offense, the Knicks could be counting on the wants of other teams especially in the Eastern Conference like the Boston Celtic who are in much need of an explosive scorer from the bench, Fansided reported.
The Celtics will be getting a solid player who averaged 9.3 points and 3.7 rebounds this season. The high-flying Williams played 80 games for the Knicks and is right and proper for those alley-oop dishes from Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas.
Another suitable bench player mentioned that could make it to the trading table for the Knicks and the Celtics, is big bruiser Kyle O'Quinn who is in dire need of playing minutes, as the 6'10" and 250 pound only averaged 4.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 65 games last season.
Both players though may need a change of scenery to bolster their now fledgling careers anew, especially Williams.
