Police arrested a former Tennessee State University (TSU) football player, a TSU student and two other men for engaging in "multiple fights" outside the local Elks Lodge.
Justin Smith, 19; TSU football player Darrian Jonta Hanna, 20; Travis Damon Murphy, Jr., 19; and TSU student Raynard Toran Williamson, 19, were arrested.
Hanna, a redshirt sophomore defensive at TSU, was charged with disorderly conduct, underage consumption and public intoxication after he refused to follow the order to leave the area of another fight.
Officer Seth Jackson had to pull out a gun in order to stop one of the accused, Smith from fleeing the scene in a car. Smith punched the policeman in his face to escape arrest when the officer chased him toward a waiting car.
"The driver of the vehicle pushed the accelerator and attempted to put the vehicle in drive," Jackson said. "At that time I held the driver at gunpoint and (pinned) Mr. Smith against the (passenger) seat."
Once the students were brought into custody, they were awarded various charges in Rutherford County Adult Detention Center
Smith is charged with assault, evading, resisting and underage consumption of alcohol. On the other hand, Williamson was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after he ran from the area of one of the fights.
Meanwhile, Murphy is charged with disorderly conduct, for fighting another individual repeatedly even when a security tried to pull him away.
