University of Rochester Board of Trustees approved a proposal to increase the tuition by 4 per cent for 2013-14 academic year.

This increase is modest compared to the hikes of the last few years.

The renewed fee structure is applicable to the university's professional schools- $46,500 for the School of Medicine and Dentistry, $57,750 for the School of Nursing's three semester accelerated program, $49,100 for the Simon School of Business.

Students at Warner School of Education will be paying 3.8 per cent more in tuition or $39,936.

In addition, undergraduates in the University of Rochester and the Eastman School of Music will be charged 3.9 per cent or $2,000 extra, where the tuition has been raised from $42,890 to $44,580. Overall, the students will have to pay, $57,644, including tuition, room and board fee.

"At the same time, we continue to pursue cost efficiencies wherever we can find them. And we are increasing financial aid, so that a Rochester education will remain accessible to hard-working students who could not otherwise afford it," said University President Joel Seligman.

For the next academic year, the university has increased its financial aid by 5.5 per cent to $108 million.
