Wisconsin Resident Arrested For Using Social Media to Threaten North Central College Students
ByAden D. Khan, a Wisconsin resident, has been taken into custody for posting several statements on Facebook, threatening the safety of students at North Central College.
Khan, 20, was arrested in Madison Friday, after police conducted a search warrant at his residence. He has been charged with one count of disorderly conduct, a Class 4 felony for posting threats online aimed at the college students.
He will be extradited to Illinois to face trial in court. Naperville police stated that there is no immediate threat to the students of the college.
On March 5, police were called to the campus after Dean of Students, Kimberly Sluis, saw a disturbing post on Facebook.
The Naperville High Tech Crimes Unit was able to nail the suspect along with the cooperation of Facebook officials.
Police claim that Khan had created a special Facebook page to post threatening messages to North Central students.
"Any threats made against an institution where there are a large number of people will be taken very seriously and will be met with the full force of the law," DuPage County State's Attorney Bob Berlin told Daily Herald.
Police officials said that Khan is not a student at the college, nor is he associated with the school.
North Central College is a private liberal arts college which was originally founded as Plainfield College in Plainfield, Illinois. On Feb. 15, 1864, the Board of Trustees changed the name of the college to North-Western College. The college then relocated to Naperville in 1870. It changed to its current name in 1926.
