The White House College Scorecard has revealed that higher education in Milwaukee is costlier than Harvard University, which is considered to be one of world's prestigious institutions for higher education.

When comparing the fee structure at the universities, the average cost for one year of an undergraduate program at Marquette University (MU) is about $28,746, which is $10,000 more than Harvard's $18,277.

In addition, tuition for Milwaukee School of Engineering ($24,546), Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design ($24,285) and University of Phoenix-Milwaukee ($22,231) is also more expensive than Harvard.

Except for tuition rates, Harvard tops the list of other education related statistics such as awarding the most number of graduation degrees, 97.4 percent, while Marquette stands at 81.4 percent, MIAD is 57.1 percent, MSOE is 56.8 percent, and the University of Phoenix-Milwaukee graduates the least number of students, 9.6 percent.

Harvard also gains maximum marks for having only one percent students who fail to pay their loans. While Milwaukee universities have more percentage of students who default on their loans - 26.4 percent in the University of Phoenix-Milwaukee, 6.3 percent at MIAD, 5 percent at MSOE and 1.9 percent at MU.

The reason for higher number of defaulters at these institutions is because private universities attract more low-income students who heavily depend upon loans.

MU spokesperson Andy Brodzeller said, "The comparisons from institutions serve as a positive tool for families looking into colleges and universities."

Although, the fee is higher than Ivy League University, MU does provide scholarships and grants to compensate for the costs.
