Raphael Daniel Bettan, a former Menlo College student, accused of stealing backpacks and laptops in November 2011, has been sentenced to one day in county jail and three years of probation with a fine of $706.
Bettan, 19, pleaded no contest to criminal petty theft in San Mateo County Superior Court on March 20.
Ryan Alexander Goodman, 20, another student, and Bettan's accomplice in the act, has been awarded one day in county jail, two years of probation and completion of a substance abuse treatment program.
He pleaded guilty to the theft last year January.
At the time of the arrest, police is said to have found two iPads and other electronic items in the college students' dormitory.
Menlo College founded in 1927 is a private, four-year undergraduate college specializing in business. It offers bachelor's degrees in Accounting, Finance, General Business Management, Human Resources Management, International Management, Marketing Communication, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Media Management, Psychology, Real Estate and Sports Management.
The college has also introduced programs for working adults, Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in management, which are part of the Professional Studies Program for Working Adults.
Students, who have enrolled in Menlo have the opportunity to study in China, Chile, Japan, Mexico, Spain and Italy.
