Liberty University is partnering with actor Kirk Cameron to produce a 90-minute religious film slated to release later this year.

The film is set to answer questions on why God lets bad things happen.

Liberty's Chancellor, Jerry Falwell Jr., told Huffington Post that Cameron's efforts are credible as he is trying to use his profession to create an impact in the society.

"So that's why we decided to partner with you on your newest project. We're trying to create tens of thousands of Kirk Camerons and put them out there," said Falwell Jr. during a Christian television program, 'Praise the Lord' where the the partnership was also announced.

Cameron said he chose to partner with Liberty University as their goals matched. Cameron is a born-again Christian and quite active in his faith.

Kirk Thomas Cameron is best known for his role as Mike Seaver on the sitcom Growing Pains from 1985-1992. Cameron also appeared in films such as Like Father Like Son, Listen to Me and Fireproof (2008).

He was a practising atheist before converting to Christianity at the age of 17 during the height of his career.

Last year March, during an interview with Piers Morgan, Cameron was caught in a scandal after he expressed his anti-gay sentiments.
