The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Providence police have joined hands to trace Sunil Tripathi, a 22-year-old Brown University student, who has been missing for over a week.

Police personnel are searching Providence, Rhode Island, and nearby areas for the student, who was on an approved leave vacation from the university.

Tripathi, wearing blue jeans, a black Eastern Mountain Sports ski jacket, glasses and a Philadelphia Eagles wool hat, was last seen in the campus at 11:00 a.m. March 16. He is about 6 feet tall, 130 pounds with short dark hair.

He has been a resident of the Brown community since 2008.

Detective Mark Sacco told CNN that they haven't found any suspicious clues yet.

According to the police, Tripathi, a philosophy major, left his apartment alone without carrying his ID and credit cards, wallet or cell phone.

In order to assist the police in their search for the missing student, a Facebook page has been created. Updates, photographs and messages for his family and friends have been posted.

"Our concerns are first and foremost with Sunil and his family," Margaret Klawunn, vice president for student life and campus services at Brown University, told the channel. "We are hopeful that by encouraging the Brown community to help spread the word that Sunil will be located."

Currently, the police have extended their search operations to New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania as Tripathi is believed to have friends and family there.

His sister, Sangeeta Tripathi, denies any foul play in this incident.
