Daniel Eck, senior vice president, Lakeland College, Wisconsin, has been appointed as interim president for an indefinite period as the board of trustees decided not to hunt for a new president for the next couple of years following Michael Grandillo's (former President) resignation, March 12.

Michael Grandillo resumed the post of President in July last year but resigned from his position in less than a year. He quit due to philosophical differences with the board.

"We are very pleased that Dan is eager to assume this important role," Board of Trustees Chairperson Robert Melzer, said. "Dan's accomplishments at the college, along with his experience in managing many of Lakeland's day-to-day operations and our strategic planning to date, have given him the experience needed to lead Lakeland."

Melzer acknowledged Grandillo's efforts during his tenure as the college's president such as implementing new approaches to admissions and student recruitment processes and initiating community building activities.

Eck's new responsibility will include the completion and implementation of the ongoing strategic planning process.

His relationship with the Lakeland College started in February 2008 as a special assistant to former President Stephen Gould. After completing just seven months at the college, he was named the senior vice president in September.

Eck is credited with having initiated varied administrative efforts such as finance, strategic planning, institutional research, human resources, information technology, facilities/grounds and international programs.

Earlier, he was the director of development and external relations at Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. He completed his bachelor's degree in anthropology from Beloit College.
