Security has been beefed up at Kutztown University (KU) after three assaults occurred in just a week within the campus boundaries.
The most recent and third attack took place last Wednesday night, when a male student was hit from behind by another man on Bell Plaza between Old Main and the administration building.
The victim started fighting back and another man jumped in on the assault. Later, one of the assailants pulled a knife.
When the victim continued to give a fight, the two African American male attackers fled into a Borough of Kutztown.
The assailants were wearing black hoodies and blue jeans and their faces were covered from their noses down. The description of these two men matched the assailants that had broken into the campus dorm rooms earlier.
This incident followed two other instances when three men with a toy handgun barged into the dorm room in an attempted robbery, attacked one of the occupants, but left without taking anything and in another occurrence, a Kutztown student was mugged by an unidentified male outside Dixon Hall.
The Kutztown University Department of Public Safety and Police Services and the Pennsylvania State Police have initiated an investigation into all the three assault cases.
Till now, no arrests have been made.
Nicholas Imbessi, chair of the school's student government safety committee, is urging the university to provide extra shuttle bus services and additional lighting.
"We're a little bit more concerned this time, because of the nature of things that are going on. It doesn't happen very often, but when it does, it kind of shakes the foundation of the university core, "Robert Watrous, dean of students at Kutztown University, told abc.
Since these attacks, the university is encouraging students to travel in groups, not to open the door for anyone they don't recognize and report any suspicious activity to the police.
