Campbellsville University's annual art scholarship competition will be conducted April 6 for high school seniors. The scholarship is worth $6,000.

The university will also present performance grants to students who do not qualify for the competitive art scholarships. The grant money for this scholarship is also $6,000.

Interested students must submit a portfolio of their finest work to the art faculty at 10 a.m. on the appointed day.

Students should contact Linda J. Cundiff, professor and chair of the department of art and send in their application before the event.

"This is an opportunity for talented, high school seniors who will be first-time freshmen to compete for an art scholarship," Cundiff said.

For the art scholarship competition, concerned students should bring along their three-15 best and strongest art works, which portray their ambition, idea, execution, style and technical skill.

Their artworks can include themes such as figurative, portrait work, landscape or still life.

Students' three-dimensional art work should either feature:

- colored pieces of oils, watercolors, acrylics, pastels, colored pencils, tempera, color prints, digital graphics, colored media;

- Black and white photography, which can be digital as well.

On the other hand, two-dimensional work should be properly matted, covered in acetate, shrink wrapped or framed.

Cundiff said that all the art works should be original and works based on pre-packaged kits and mechanically reproduced photo prints will be not be accepted.

In order to qualify for the scholarship competition, students must have obtained an academic standing equivalent to or higher than a 3.0 grade point average/B average.

They also should maintain the same scorecard whilst attending the university, if selected for this scholarship.

Cundiff said that winning students will attend the university as art majors and they will be awarded $750 scholarship monies per semester till the duration of the program, which is usually comprised of eight semesters.

The recipients of this scholarship will also be eligible for performance grant awards and other forms of financial aid from the university.

In addition, any high school student who meets all the above mentioned criteria will also qualify for the Performance Grant Scholarship in Art as well.
