Coastal Carolina University Wednesday confirmed that Anthony Darnell Liddell, 19, a sophomore student from Bennettsville, died in the latest shooting incident at University Palace residence hall.

The shooting took place Tuesday, said the university. The suspect is still at large.

The university said that the campus police received a call reporting the shooting incident Tuesday at 7.22 p.m. The police swung into action immediately. However, the possible suspect had already escaped in a private vehicle from the campus.

The gunshot victim was rushed to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where he was declared dead.

Later, students, faculty and staff were alerted and the university website was updated about the shooting incident.

The classes were resumed Wednesday as the police intelligence suggested that there was no possible threat to students' safety.

The S C Law Enforcement Division is conducting the investigation, assisted by CCU Public Safety.

The university, meanwhile, announced that it is holding a candlelight vigil at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Spadoni Park. The university's Office of Counseling Services is organizing the vigil, along with offering ongoing counseling services to students affected by the tragedy.

The event would be presided by CCU President David DeCenzo, who will speak at the vigil along with Debbie Conner, vice president for student affairs.

The event would also call for students to share memories and the Coastal Inspirational Ambassadors gospel choir will perform. The closing prayer will be performed by Preston McKever-Floyd, professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, followed by refreshments.
