Smart has two major opportunities to punctuate his first season with Texas, hosting Oklahoma Saturday and second-ranked Kansas on Monday. A win in either game, plus a good performance in the Big 12 Tournament could well seal Texas' trip to the NCAA Tournament.
While the Longhorns are no strangers to the NCAA Tournament, they seemed to have trouble in big games under Rick Barnes. Smart has the chance to end his first season on a resounding note.
Oklahoma will not make that easy, boasting one of the highest scoring offenses in the Big 12 and one of the most lethal individual scorers in the nation with Buddy Hield. Oklahoma also has its sights set on earning a one-seed for the NCAA Tournament, though they may have to win the Big 12 to do so.
