Around 577 students from Arkansas Tech University, Ozark campus, have registered with the Campus Emergency Outreach Notification (CEON) system to receive updates on life-threatening emergencies and notifications about cancellation of classes due to bad weather etc.
The emergency text message system has been introduced to notify faculty, staff and students in an efficient and timely manner on a daily basis.
In addition, CEON features Blackboard Course Management System that provides notifications from courses chosen by a student.
Once a student adds his/her notification number and/or cell (SMS) number on CEON, he/she will receive important notifications from the university either through e-mails or phone voice or text.
This process is also to be followed for Blackboard Course Management System.
"Emergency notification is a critical part of the security of our students, faculty and staff," said Susie Nicholson, vice president for Student Services and University Relations.
Nicholson said that individuals connected to CEON system will receive direct communication from the university during emergency situations as communication is vital during those times.
Chancellor Jo Alice Blondin, told Arkansas Matters that the safety of the campus community was important and CEON was an excellent tool for reaching out to students.
Other information pertaining to financial aid, registrar's office and student accounts will also be part of CEON system soon.
